Today I’d like to talk about a topic dear to me, and that is also close to many other people: the memory.
To tell the truth it concerns each of us, since this is an essential component of our life.
The memory topic, however, it more closely to certain categories of people: I am referring in particular to students, from primary to university, and to all those who have to memorize so many things at work, and need to remember the right things when it’s necessary!
However, to have an infallible memory would be fantastic for everybody.
The quality of our life, in fact, would increase, taking into consideration the advantages in the professional and personal field.
Having a prodigious memory is a vain illusion?
No, if we think of two basics things:
1) Memory has its own way to work
2) Memory is an ability that, like many others, need to be strengthened.
To explain the things in a very simple way, memories are formed in this way: for every event of our life, our brain forms a neuronal pathway, called synapses, which combines two different neurons. If this path is made many times (i.e. if the event is repeated continuously) the memory of the event strengthens, and at the end it will become permanent.
That’s why, for example, we remember all life long, a text of a song we've heard and sung many times.
But it’s everything here?
Absolutely not: besides the repetition of actions comes into play even the emotional part.
Indeed, when the thing is associated with a strong emotion, even just a few repetitions, or even only one can make an event fixed in our mind!
The day of your marriage probably or the victory of your last football team player!
Why? Because there was a strong emotion associated to these events.
That is why, for example, it is better to study in an imaginative way, making vivid and engaging the study: it would be helpful for remembering much more!
If these are the two basic mechanisms of memory, the ways to exploit are different.
The experts teach different memory techniques that can be used for a generic or specific sector such as foreign languages, science, places, numbers, and so on.
It’s important to say that the application of these techniques could greatly improve your memory and your life.
We have to remember that the brain is a muscle, and it needs to be trained.
